Summary
Reyes lost her best friend to a freak accident. Every day is harder than the last, and she is grief struck for years on end. On the fifth anniversary of her best friend's departure, she accidentally ends up in a forest, far from anything she knows. When she wakes up on the forest floor, she finds Ocell, a slightly cycinal but overall friendly girl. She is convinced she is either dead or drugged and taken against her will, but since ocell has a bow and arrow on her, she is careful not to let it show.
Slowly but surely, Reyes starts to realize that she is, in fact, in another world entirely. Together with Ocell, she travels to the palace of the realm -- not before they encounter a deadly purple mist that rips open flesh and kills without mercy -- and ask the ruler for advice on how to get Reyes back. Instead, they are met with the desperate question to search for ingredients for the only cure that could save the realm -- and likely the entire planet -- from a certain death. Reyes, not to keen to return home where all her grief dwells, accepts. They are joined by Anzeru, a guy who knows all there is to know about traveling through Erisseth.
Quickly they realize that it isn't as easy or safe as they thought it would be. They fight monsters, curses, and most importantly, themselves. Family secrets, death and cheating fall on their path as they stumble through the realms. Will they manage to find all ingredients of the cure, or will inner and outer distractions sway them from their path? Is earth in danger, too?
A story about dealing with grief, loss and finding pieces of yourself you didn't know existed. Look at it through the perspective of grieving, or enjoy a magical tale of heros and villains, riddled with mystery and beautiful places.

About the story
When the author started writing the story in 2016, it was more or less a plot based purely on the good vs. evil story, with one and only one character being the evil in the world. As the author aged, so did the story. More characters are morally gray, and the villain is not the only one waging war in the world (quickly referenced in one of the chapters, by pointing out two realms are at war with eachother).
The story deals with multiple difficult themes, like grieving a friend (and father), betrayal from those close to us, wandering eyes and, because it's a fantasy book grappling with magic. But it's not all sorrow and glum, there are plenty of happy moments included, too.
With it's 500 pages, it's quite a story. The pages are filled with images that perfectly complement the words that accompany them. All in an old gothic/victorian line art style. The cover of the book shows the solar system of Erisseth's part of the universe. The planet to the upper right, the largest one, is Erisseth.
