Become an Apollo Artist

Are you an artist seeking to bring your art to life? Look no further! At Apollo Libraries, we are dedicated to helping artists get their work out there, to help them have a place to sell their art. You create art, we have a place to sell it. Sounds like a good partnership to us. In this article, we will walk you through our process, from application to actual product, along with the options you have.

APPLICATION PROCESS

To begin the journey towards becoming an Apollo Artist, applicants are required to fill out a form containing essential information about themselves and their work, OR send us an email at apollolibraries@icloud.com with the subject line ARTIST APPLICATION.

The things to include in the mail are your Full name (Required. You can add an artist name that you would like us to use instead of your real name, but we do need your legal name. If you're transgender or use a different name than your legal name, you're more than free to use your chosen name), what kind of art you make and what you'd like to sell or show with us (we will tell you what the options are further down in this article, or click here to get there quicker) and a bit about yourself. It doesn't have to be a hundred pages of intimate detail, just tell us about who you are, how you got into creating and why you enjoy it, you're entirely free in deciding what to tell us. As long as we get to know who you are.

PORTFOLIO

Additionally, when we receive the application, we will request a portfolio containing some of your work to get a glimpse of the style and work that you do. You can send this portfolio as a response to the email requesting it, or, if the file is too big, you can use WeTransfer to send it to us.

The portfolio doesn't have to be one uniform format. Because there are many different types of art and artists, we understand that different portfolios fit with different people. As long as we get a sense of your art, the layout is up to you. It can be as simple as some pictures of your work, but we don't mind bigger, more extravagant portfolios, either.

Get your portfolio together before you apply so that you don't have to scramble to get some work together at the last minute!

Review and Approval

Upon receipt of the application, our team will carefully assess the submitted materials. Artists will be notified of the decision, either an approval to proceed further or a rejection with constructive feedback.

We cannot guarantee an approval, but do not let this discourage you from reaching out to us in the future nor from creating art. All art deserves to be created. Be the one to do that.

We accept artists of all kinds for application.

YOU'RE APPROVED, NOW WHAT?

Congrats! You're an Apollo Artist. Now comes the question: now what? We'll have to figure our how we're going to sell your art, which art pieces and products to sell, what the agreements are (like how many of your art works we're putting up and if we'll have a limited collection of your work or a more continuous line of products, some legal things, for how long you want to be an Apollo Artist, but also things including your royalties - not unimportant!), and we'll have you sign on with us! Lastly, you'll get a digital certificate (but you can print it out!) to officially show you're part of our team.

Discuss

First of all, we will discuss with you what your options are. Scroll a little more downwards to find the heading of 'Your Options' to see what's possible if you're curious in advance, but don't worry if you haven't looked at the options before discussing what's possible. We'll lay it out for you.

Decide

Decide what you want to do. You can always revisit it later and make changes to what you want, we're open to revisions and new options.

Sign

Sign the necessary documents (we need to abide by at least some rules) and check if everything's how you want it. After signing, you're officially an Apollo Artist. You'll get a digital certificate to show (off) that you're part of our team of artists.

YOUR OPTIONS

Being an artist with apollo means you're able to be creative. We want you to feel as free to create what you need to as possible. This is why we offer many ways of selling your art with us.

ART PRINTS

Ofcourse there is the option to sell art prints, but we can do more for you than just art prints. Art prints, by the way, are also available for photographers, poets who want to make poetry posters and if you can think of a way that would make sense for something to be on an art print, you can always tell us. You can choose between framed or not framed, the framed option being more expensive. There is also the decision between matte prints or luster prints which are glossy. The glossy posters are usually a bit more expensive, but not by an incredible amount.

SELL YOUR PHYSICAL ART

If you're a painter, create sculptures or anything of the like, it's difficult to just sell art prints of them. This is why you can choose to sell your physical art with us, too. You take pictures of it, give it a description and practical information and if it's sold, we'll send you the adress and information you can use to send it to the buyer.

CLOTHING

If we really like your art and think it would look good on clothing, we'll offer you a deal to create designs for one or multiple clothing items. Your own clothing line, if you will. This usually includes t-shirts and hoodies or sweaters, sometimes shorts and even shoes. It can include accessories like hats, phone cases, water bottles and totes, too, but this isn't necessary. Phone cases and totes are also available without the other options. These are more quickly offered. We don't offer this to all of our artists, but do not feel left out if you don't get this as an offer.

STICKERS

Something that's also very popular are stickers. How awesome would that be: your own designs on your very own sticker sheet or single sticker?

POETRY OR PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKS

We can also publish your poetry or photography in an actual book. This book will be filled entirely with your poetry or photography, or you can be asked to be a part of a bundle with work from different people in some rare cases (for example poetry of all the same theme or topic). You provide the poems or photography, you can choose to do your own formatting - we will do a final free edit to make sure it's ready for the printer and without error - or we can do it for you for a price that differs by length of the document.

You have to edit the poetry or photography yourself or let it be edited by someone, that is the one thing we cannot do for you (yet). If we see that your poetry or photography requires editing, we will suggest you to seek an editor. Do not take this as a mean spirited attack, this is purely to get your work to be as good as it can be. As for the cover: you can design it yourself or let us do it - this is a free service.

PUZZLES

You can get your art on a puzzle. This is especially an interesting option if you have art that is very diverse in the sense of color and lines. If you have a file with a lot of space that is of the same color, we cannot recommend creating a puzzle. That way, it is incredibly difficult to put the puzzle together.

POSTCARDS

These are especially popular during holidays like Christmas, but we do offer these year-round.

EMBROIDERED PATCHES

Embroidered patches have become a hit in mainstream fashion. As a stylish accessory, the durable twill fabric patches can add more spice to your clothes or be used to give your worn-in clothes a second life. Attach them in 3 ways: by ironing on, sewing on, or using safety pins. These are usually used with digital art since they are embroidered, the machine can't handle the fine lines of sketches, nor the diverse colors of paintings.

OTHER IDEAS

We’re always open to exploring other ideas. If you’ve got an idea that isn’t mentioned here, let us know. We can always see if it’s a possibility.

THE PROCESS

Now that we're all discussed-out, it's time to get your art live. We'll make sure it appears in our store, but there are other things that need to happen in order for your art to be successful.

Artist's Bio and Page

Once you're an Apollo Artist, you will get your own Artist's page. This is so that people can get to know the face behind the work. The artist's pages also serve as a sort of browsing bank for for example authors or people looking for illustrations or art for their own projects.

You can get to this artist's page either by using the link or by clicking on the button that's on your slot on our "our artists" page - which you will be featured on. Additionally, with every one of your products in our store, there is a link to your profile.

What we will ask you to provide are an artist's bio, a picture of yourself, some pictures of your art to display in the photo gallery (in jpeg format, max. 20) and your contact information if people want to get in contact with you (think social media, your own website or email. We will not use phone numbers).

ARTIST'S BIO

We encourage artists to create their own artist's bio. If you're struggling to string the words together, we can give you a template to use. Things to include into this Artist's bio could be why you do art, your style, something about yourself like hobbies or a short life story with interesting facts. In general, the artist's bio should be no more than 750 words, and no less than 100. We make rare exceptions to this rule.

Marketing

We give marketing support, but we don't manage marketing for you outside of our own platforms. It will be visible in our store so that visitors of the site can see your art. We will share it on our social media platforms and in some cases in our news letter (but not always. This isn't based on how good the art is but on if it fits in the news letter). But other marketing will be managed by yourself.

Like we mentioned, we do offer marketing support. We will share ways to make it as easy as possible for you to reach people. One tip is generally to share it with the people around you as word of mouth is often the best way to get people to be interested in what you do or sell. But don't worry if you're no marketing genius and don't have many people in your immediate circle who are interested. We will support you.
