APOLLO CLASSICS

Strength and how to obtain it.

In this 1901 guide- and personal account paperback book, Sandow recounts stories from his own life, and lays out the work he has done to help people achieve fitness, whether man, woman, child or even those with a physical hinderance. He speaks about his Methods, his own feats and most importantly, he lets us take a look at himself, the father of modern day body building.

"Without strength—and by strength I mean health, vitality, and a general sense of physical well-being—life is but a gloomy business." - Eugen Sandow

There is a fantastic autobiography comprising the second half of this short book. Sandow is a very interesting character, as the first body builder in modern history basing his physique off of the Greek and Roman statues he found in European museums. Sandow is credited with creating the 'Grecian Ideal' a body type that has been idealized and pursued by proponents of fitness and aesthetics. The book in many ways is also interesting as a historical product of its time and gives insight into the origins of the modern fitness movement.
